CANINE HEAT STRESS-TREATMENT
In heatstroke cases,high fever must be reduced rapidly to save the dog's
life and premanent brain damage. Body temperatures of 106 degrees and
above can be tolerated for only afew minutes before irreversible damage
occurs to the central nervous system.(If heatstroke occurs)
1. Gradually immerse the dog in cool water if at all possible.
2.If a large dog spray with water from a garden hose.
3.Apply ice packs to head, neck and groin area also under front legs.
ABOVE ALL,,Treat the dog promptly and take it to a veterinarian as soon as
possible. Heat exhaustion or heat cramps also require treatment by a veterinarian.

PREVENTIVE MEASURES

1.Never leave a dog in a closed automobile or unventilated garage or any
other enclosure for any length of time in hot weather this also means
outside. Dogs suffer from heat just as much or more
than people do. Remember they can't take their coats off and on.
2.Kennels should have adequate ventilation or air conditioning to provide
good air circulation .
3.When dogs are outdoors, some form of shade cover should be provided for
the dog to get under.
4.Avoid excessive exercise dont take your dog jogging or for long walks in
hot humid weather.
5.Keep plenty of fresh drinking water available at all times for your
animals try putting ice cubes in the water. Also,If you are going to be
gone all day freeze a pan an place down beside the other pan of cool water
it will melt slowly and give your animal cool water longer.
6.If your dog exhibits any signs of heat stress, follow the treatment
advice and get your pet to a veterinarian immediately.
