Alouette (flute and piano) -  This is a very elementary arrangement capable of a student in the second level of most method books.  The flute part is also written in the heart of a young student's range.
America (flute and piano) -  The arrangement of this popular patriotic song can be adapted very easily to flute, oboe or violin. The melodic part is equally shared between each instrumentalist.
Beethoven - Ecossaise in G (flute and piano) - In this arrangement the instrumentalist takes the melody and the piano is strictly the accompanist, however there are parts where the piano part must know when to "come out of hiding".  I think this little Scottish piece befits a duo treatment.
Dona Nobis Pacem (flute and piano) -  This melody is simply written as a round.  The piano part is written in the range surrounding "Middle C".  The flute part is written an octave higher than the piano.  Since the parts are so easy students can give their full attention to listening to their partner and producing a beautiful tone with their instrument.
Mahler - "Titan" Symphony Theme (one piano - four hands) -  This arrangement follows Mahler's canonic treatment of - Three Blind Mice, found in the third movement of this symphony.  I follow the canon as strictly as I can while keeping the arrangement in the early elementary range of difficulty.  Original harmonies and voicing are observed.
When Johnny Comes Marching Home (flute and piano) -  This spirited arrangement demonstrates the fun of ensemble.  Both players can share the enthusiasm of playing together, but must work together as a team to bring out the possibilities of the arrangement.
Chopin - Waltz in A minor (one piano - four hands) -  I have a short and a long version of this composition.  The short version takes in Theme 1 and 2 and stays in the early intermediate level.  The longer version takes in a a third theme and while increasing the length, also increases the difficulty to mid - late intermediate level.
Stravinsky - The Firebird's Lullaby (one piano - six hands)  - This arrangement requires each performer to balance his part to the whole.  I took Stravinsky's own piano version of this piece and redistributed all the original materials, sticking to the original as much as possible but and then transposed the piece to E minor.  The original key is E flat minor.
NOTE:  The Audio files recorded were the MIDI files produced with my notation program; Finale.  So, these files are intended only to inform you of the arrangement, not for any "musical" interpretation of the compositions.

Ensembles for piano and another instrument
Want a novel inclusion for your next recital?  Below are some simple arrangements of some popular pieces for piano and another instrument.  Since most of my collaborations with other musicians are not pianists I feel it is important to give my students opportunity to develop their skills how they will most likely use them in their adult life.  Besides, not only is it a lot of fun, but its a great opportunity to develop ones musical sensibilities.
