I think it important to make a case for choosing a professional studio for your music lessons over having lessons in your home. An itinerant teacher does provide convenience, which is a plus. But in this little article I’d like to mention all that a studio teacher provides that the itinerant teacher cannot. It’s my hope that if you weigh all these advantages against the one advantage of convenience you will see that the better of the two choices lies with the studio teacher.

A professional music studio, above all things, speaks to the dedication and commitment of the piano teacher. There is a major investment of capital in choosing quality instruments as well as stocking the studio with abundant supplies. No one would venture this investment unless they were most serious about their teaching.

Computer technologies have provided teachers with state of the art software to make some of the more tedious learning experiences fun. Computers equipped with MIDI (Musical Instrument Digital Interface) makes possible many unique educational opportunities. I've integrated this technology at my studio since 1988. There are also excellent multimedia presentations that are available to help students in their music instruction. I have several multimedia CD’s that I’ve found useful to my teaching program.

My studio is stocked with a myriad of musical CD’s that can be used in a moment’s notice. If a student is learning a theme from a Beethoven Symphony I can bring the student this theme in its original symphonic glory. We can say that Haydn brought his lively sense of humor into his compositions but listening to that humor in a composition is the best way to bring that fact home.

I also have an inventory of books and sheet music that’s instantly available. This saves you a trip to the music store. I’m stocked with metronomes, blackboards, stickers, incentive programs, colored pencils, rhythm instruments, adjustable benches, keyboards, computers and software -- everything I’ve found necessary to teach professionally and successfully.

I also have my reference library at my studio to help me. A student reading about a technical item from one of my reference books gives me one more way to help a student remember. For example – I may teach a student about the meaning of various musical symbols found on the music page but if they read about this in a musical dictionary and write the definition in their music book themselves; they are much more likely to remember what these symbols mean.

Without my studio and all my equipment I couldn’t be near as effective a piano teacher. I’ve invested thousands of dollars to provide my students with the best quality instruction my abilities could afford. AND … I’m committed to making things as convenient as possible for your family.
